How to move accounts and reseller clients from cPanel to Enhance
Moving a reseller business from cPanel: what to collect, how to give us access or full backups, how each client site is checked, and when the DNS switches.
Moving a reseller business from cPanel is mostly a list and a schedule. We do the move itself, free and with no limit on the number of accounts: whatever Enhance’s own import takes is imported, and whatever it cannot take, an engineer moves by hand. This guide is what to prepare on your side, and what happens on ours.
If you are deciding whether to move at all, start with Moving from cPanel to Enhance: what changes for you. If your host is ending cPanel reseller plans, see Hostinger reseller alternative.
Step 1: List what moves
For every client account, note:
- the cPanel username and the domains on it, including addon and parked domains;
- the mailboxes, and roughly how much mail is in them;
- anything unusual: cron jobs, custom PHP settings, Node.js apps, mail forwarding rules.
The last line is the one that saves time. Things we know about are planned into the move; things we do not are discovered after it.
Step 2: Give us access, or full backups
Either works, and you can mix them:
- Your reseller login (WHM). The simplest for many accounts: we take each account from there.
- Full backups of each account. In each client’s cPanel, open Backup and choose Download a Full Account Backup. cPanel builds a
.tar.gzfile with the files, databases, mailboxes and settings of that account. Send us the files or a link to them.
Open the move with the form on the migration page or a ticket, and attach the list from step 1.
Step 3: We import into Enhance
Each client becomes a customer in your white-label Enhance panel, with their sites, databases and mail. One site moves within a day of us getting access to it; for many accounts we agree the order with you, so the busiest clients are not all moved on the same evening.
Step 4: Check each site before the switch
Every site comes up on our platform first, while your current host keeps serving it. You check it on a temporary address — or by pointing the domain at the new server on your own computer only, through the hosts file. Nothing changes for visitors until the domain switches.
Step 5: We switch the DNS
When you say go, we point the domains at us — outside your clients’ busy hours if you ask. If a domain’s DNS is managed somewhere other than with us, we will ask for access to it for the switch.
Mail apps that connect to mail.<their domain> carry on once the DNS switches. If a client’s app uses the old host’s server name instead, it needs the new one — ask us for the settings.
Step 6: Only then cancel the old plan
Keep the old reseller plan running until every site has been checked on its new address and every domain has switched. Then cancel it, and keep the last backups for a while.
Reseller plans with us come with a 90-day money-back guarantee — long enough to move a few clients over first and see how they get on.
